Frequently Asked Questions
Program & Coaching
Q: Why is Everus Sabre Camp two weeks, while many camps last only one week?
A: Meaningful improvement in Sabre requires time for repetition, correction, and application. While one-week camps can provide useful exposure, lasting technical and tactical development usually takes longer.
At Everus, the extended program allows athletes to learn new skills, apply them in training and bouts, and refine them through continuous feedback from Olympic-level coaches. The longer format also supports a more complete training structure, including technical work, tactical development, sparring, and conditioning.
Our goal is not just an intensive experience, but measurable progress athletes can bring back to their clubs and competitions.
Q: Why do you limit the camp to 16 athletes?
A: Everus Sabre Camp is designed around intensive, personalized coaching. By limiting enrollment to just 16 athletes, we maintain small training groups and a high coach-to-athlete ratio.
This ensures every fencer receives direct feedback, focused technical correction, and meaningful private lesson time. Larger camps often prioritize volume, but at Everus our priority is individual development and measurable progress.
A smaller cohort also creates a focused training environment where athletes can work closely with the coaches and learn from one another at a consistently high level.
Q: Will both Olympic coaches be present throughout the camp?
A: Yes. Both Olympic champions will be on site and actively involved in leading the training sessions.
Q: Can I register for partial sessions or attend both sessions?
A: We prioritize full-session registrations to maintain training continuity. If spots remain after the deadline, we will consider requests for non-standard durations. For the most comprehensive growth, fencers are encouraged to complete both sessions. This commitment to excellence is rewarded with bonus one-on-one private lessons led by our Olympic and World Champion coaches. Please email info@everusfencing.com to inquire details.
Q: Can I book private lessons with the Olympic Champions?
A: Yes. Private lessons are highly recommended for technical refinement. While not included in the standard $3,000 package, they can be purchased separately. We suggest booking in advance, as slots with Alexandr Shirshov and Aleksey Frosin fill quickly. (Note: Early Bird registrants before April 20 receive 3 complimentary lessons).
Admission & Requirements
Q: Is this camp suitable for beginners?
A: No. Everus Sabre is an elite intensive designed for competitive growth. To maintain a high standard of sparring and technical drills, all athletes must be at least 12 years old with a minimum of 3 years of competitive fencing experience.
Logistics & Accommodation
Q: What does the “Residential” package include?
A: The package is fully all-inclusive, covering all 12 days training fees, 13 nights comfortable hotel accommodations (shared with one roommate), and three meals per day.
Q: Can parents stay with their child, and what is the additional cost?
A: Yes. If a parent wishes to share a room with their fencer, there is a nominal surcharge of $20 USD per night in addition to the base package price. This fee covers the parent’s stay and breakfast. Please ensure you select the “Parent-Child Shared Room” option during your camp enrollment so we can secure the appropriate room block.
Q: Where is the camp located and how do I get there?
A: The camp is held in Huizhou, China, located near the major travel hubs of Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Huizhou Airport is the closest, while Shenzhen and Hong Kong airports offer a wider range of international flights. Upon registration, families receive a detailed travel guide with specific address and arrival instructions and local transport suggestions.
Q: Is a Visa required for China?
A: For U.S. Passport holders, a visa is required to enter mainland China (Huizhou). For Canada Passport holders, no visa is required to enter mainland China for stays no more than 30 days in 2026.
